Flame Retardant Overview

Flame retardant refers to the fact that under specified test conditions, the sample is burned, and after the fire source is removed, the flame spread on the sample is only within a limited range and self-extinguishing characteristics, that is, it has the ability to prevent or delay the occurrence or spread of the flame.

In the terminal, flame retardancy is achieved by adding flame retardant materials. Flame retardant grade from high to low V0, V1, V2 and so on. Amass DC power connector plastic parts using PA66 plastic material, the material is better in line with UL94, V0 flame retardant.

Flame-retardant materials are protective materials that can prevent combustion and are not easy to burn themselves, and flame-retardant materials are mainly organic and inorganic, halogen and non-halogen. Flame retardant mechanism

In general, the flame retardant mechanism is to add a certain proportion of flame retardants to the plastic, so that the oxygen index increases, thus producing flame retardant effect. For different materials, the effect of flame retardants may also be different.

The action mechanism of flame retardants is complicated. But the aim is always to cut off the combustion cycle by physical and chemical means. The effect of flame retardants on combustion reaction is manifested in the following aspects:

1, located in the condensed phase of the flame retardant thermal decomposition, so that the relative temperature in the condensed phase to slow down the rise of plastic thermal decomposition temperature, the use of flame retardant thermal decomposition generated by the gasification of non-combustible gas to reduce the temperature.

2, the flame retardant is decomposed by heat, releasing the flame retardant that captures the -OH (hydroxyl) radical in the combustion reaction, so that the combustion process according to the free radical chain reaction terminates the chain reaction.

3, under the action of heat, the flame retardant appears endothermic phase transition, preventing the increase of the temperature in the condensed phase, so that the combustion reaction slows down until it stops.

4, catalyze the thermal decomposition of condensed phase, produce solid phase products (coking layer) or foam layer, hinder the heat transfer effect. This keeps the condensed phase temperature low, resulting in a reduced rate of formation as a gas phase reaction feedstock (the breakdown product of combustible gases).

In short, the effect of flame retardants can comprehensively slow down the speed of the combustion reaction, or make the initiation of the reaction difficult, so as to achieve the purpose of inhibiting and reducing the fire hazard.
